Jacob Collier is 26 years old, lives with his mother and two sisters in North London, in the house where he grew up.  Jacob Collier is with you today dear reader thanks to the January 25, 2021 issue of New Yorker Magazine.  Millennials and boomers alike can find what they need in this Amazing weekly periodical.  Take it from one who has read this esteemed magazine weekly since age 16.

Jacob is clearly gifted. A child prodigy not unlike say, Todd Rundgren.  The cover of Stevie Wonder’s ” Don’t you worry bout a thing” was a herculean start, some might argue a bit of a “look what I can do”!  I say if you can do it as well as Jacob why not demonstrate this unique gift to the world. Share and keep sharing. This Wonder Cover got him noticed by vox populi and more importantly for Jacob’s bank account, producer Quincy Jones.  2016 Jacob signed with Quincy Jones Productions releasing “In my Room” soon thereafter. You noticed the different hair style for each vocal part Jacob performed, then gridded together in the mix.  Genius in the details. Respect earned and given.

Jacob Collier deconstructs a Stevie Wonder classic

Stevie Wonder is one of the most widely celebrated artists in history. His music is infectious, melodic, and thoughtfully inspired by the jazz musicians who came before him. In his legendary song “Sir Duke,” Stevie paid homage to the late Duke Ellington and his other predecessors. Jacob Collier is a rising star in his own right and is Stevie Wonder’s self-proclaimed greatest fan. Here, he breaks down the jazz influences and syncopations Stevie uses to create the magic that is “Sir Duke.”

Lyrics: Woke up this morning and I looked to my left Thought you were here, baby Realised and got a sudden pain in my chest Thought you were near me, baby You’re posted up in London in the house that we rent Yeah, how’s it doin, baby? I’m workin’ on my music, but today, I’m upset Yeah, I really miss you, baby I don’t mind if you’ve had enough of this lonely life Baby, sometimes, I feel it, too, too (huh) I don’t mind if you’re tired of the days when we don’t get to Facetime ‘Cause most of my life is split between you and a red-eye I know you never ask for much when we’re together at home And, baby, I like that, yeah Got to hold it down for a little bit Longer, and we’ll be together for life (huh) Yeah, I’ll be right back, yeah All alone We, in the zone I, need you home I, want you most I, want you closer Need you close, I do (yeah, aye) Always on my mind like constantly I know your love is where I want to be You on the road ain’t got no time for me Mahalia, I hope you saving up that time for me I don’t mind if you’ve had enough of this lonely life (yeah, well) Baby, sometimes, I feel it, too, too, (huh, yeah) I don’t mind if you’re tired of the days when we don’t get to Facetime ‘Cause most of my life is split between you and a redeye I know you never ask for much when we’re together at home And, baby, I like that, yeah Got to hold it down for a little bit Longer, and we’ll be together for life (for life) Yeah, I’ll be right back, yeah, yeah

Pa Salieu – Betty (Official Music Video)

“My voice is an instrument,” says Pa Salieu. Since the release of the infectious rap anthem ‘Frontline’ via Mixtape Madness, the 22-year-old from Coventry has established himself as a leading light within Britain’s flourishing rap landscape. Armed with a distinct, melodic cadence that incorporates influences from his Gambian heritage, Salieu has forged his identity into a unique brand of rap that is quickly drawing attention and applause from wide quarters. The early momentum of ‘Frontline’ has continued with a string of feature verses over the last few months. He connected with South London’s SL for ‘Hit the Block,’ as well as Meekz, M1llionz, and Teeway on ‘Year of the Real.’ He also joined Backroad Gee and Ambush for the remix to street heater ‘Party Popper’ on GRM Daily. The next stage in his journey sees him release the tracks ‘Bang Out’ and ‘Betty’, prior to an upcoming mixtape.
