Peter Frampton’s Frampton Comes Alive!: A Transformative Experience
The release of Peter Frampton’s Frampton Comes Alive! was more than just a musical event; it became a defining moment for many of us. This 1976 live album wasn’t just a collection of songs—it was a doorway to a new world, filled with energy and connection.
My first encounter with Frampton Comes Alive! came through the closed door of my older brother’s room in Newburgh, NY. At eight years old, I was captivated by the sounds of “Do You Feel Like We Do?” The iconic talk box vocal effects were like nothing I had ever heard. They bubbled through me, waking a playful tiger inside my young self. This album marked my first realization of our deep connection to one another and to the earth.
Frampton’s joy on stage was infectious. His energy reached beyond the concert hall, touching each of us listening in our rooms. His music was a call to embrace the joy of the moment, a reminder of the power of live music to bring people together.
Even today, Frampton Comes Alive! stirs those same feelings. Whether you’re hearing it for the first time or the hundredth, the call to “wake your tiger” still resonates. So put on the album, close your eyes, and let the music take you back to that feeling. Join me in reliving the magic.

Peter Frampton Talks About Writing “Do You Feel Like We Do”
Bob Heil
It was a sound and radio engineer, Bob Heil, who made the first commercialized versions of the talk box. According to Heil, Peter Frampton’s girlfriend called the engineer one day asking for one of his original fiberglass talk boxes to give Frampton as a Christmas gift [source: Musician’s Friend].

Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO, Audiophile Turntable with Carbon Fiber tonearm, Electronic Speed Selection and pre-Mounted Sumiko Rainier Phono Cartridge (High Gloss Black)
TechRadar Verdict 5 stars out of 5
Update: February 2024. The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo is an update to one of the best turntables available (the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, which is itself based on the firm’s original Debut, launched in 1999) and despite being a fair chunk of money more than its older 2017 sibling, this September 2020 looker is easily still worthy of a spot in our guide. It’s devoid of preamp (so you’ll need one). It’s not the deck for you if you want Bluetooth connectivity (look to the Cambridge Audio Alva TT V2) or new-fangled Sonos connectivity (see the Victrola Stream Carbon) but what it does do exceptionally well is play your vinyl records, within a hi-fi system. And that is timeless – because vinyl is going nowhere. The day will likely come when a turntable arrives that can do this specific job marginally better for the same money. But Pro-Ject can rest assured that it still hasn’t happened yet. The rest of this review remains as previously published.
